Viaggiare piace a tutti, si sa. Ma, purtroppo, è un’attività piuttosto costosa. Ci sarebbe bisogno di un mezzo per viaggiare senza spendere nulla (in termini monetari), riuscendo a sopperire alle esigenze economiche in altri modi. Convinti non si possa fare? Forse è il caso che ascoltiate la storia del fotografo australiano Shantanu Starick.
Il concetto alla base di The Pixel Trade è molto semplice: viaggiare in tutto il mondo usando le foto come merce di scambio. Bandito il danaro, in cambio di cibo ed ospitalità Starick scatta foto dei paesaggi in cui si trova e documenta il tutto in maniera minuziosa sul sito. Altra caratteristica è che ciascuno degli ospitanti, a soggiorno concluso, è invitato dal fotografo a presentargli un nuovo possibile anello di questo business in movimento che ha in sé un’idea romantica dei rapporti tra le persone.
« I start with 1 couple, I take photographs for any project they have, as I would a client: portraits, products, music, architecture, weddings, fashion, anything. The edited photographs are my part of the trade. In order for my journey to continue I ask to be introduced to a new trader during my stay. A friend, an associate, anyone that would benefit from having professional photographs taken. The pixel trade will continue, leading from one place to the next.»
Il progetto è partito ormai nel 2012 e continua tutt’oggi. Sempre sul sito trovate i posti già visitati e quelli che lo saranno prossimamente. Ah, se vi steste chiedendo fino a quando durerà questa folle idea, sappiate che Starick ha le idee molto chiare:
«I’ll continue on this journey until the well of human curiosity and kindness dries up, which going by my first two years worth of experiences seems like a long time. The overall goal is to reach all seven continents, once this happens the project will wind down to its conclusion.»
