Amaury Poudray – Wool and Wood

  • 10 Febbraio 2015
  • Vincenzo Pellegrino

Wood and Wool è un progetto dai molteplici significati. Per tutte queste ragioni il progetto Wood and Wool è “In Between”.

I hope to live a life in between the normalities myself, in order to discover new territories.

Amaury Poudray is a French designer coming from the School of Art and Design in St Etienne. After studying in the US at the Rhode Island School of Design, in April 2011, he joined the design team of Fabrica, research center and communication Benetton Group in Italy, in which he worked one year, until he settled in Lyon in 2012.

The creative approach of Amaury Poudray is based on careful listening, built around dialogue. He works together with his clients, furniture manufacturers, companies, art galleries and schools, to find solutions that are determined by the context of their creation. For each project, a story slowly begins to develop and becomes relevant, thanks to all the characters involved. Amaury is interested in the function and aesthetics of his creations but pays particular attention to the meaning and coherence of his projects as a whole.

At the IMM Cologne Furniture Fair 2015, 11 designers were allowed to show their own personal perception of “between”. This means that each individual product provides an individual opinion, a subjective point of view that is transformed, in the case of Amaury, in the features of Wood and Wool.

Wood and Wool is a project with multiple meanings. Responds to the general theme of the exhibition Objects in Between extricating between wood and wool – between hard & soft. It is neither a normal console nor a container. Can accommodate objects although not all are functionally permits. A vase full of water, for example, isn’t just as comfortable as it could be a bunch of keys from the low weight. The wooden structure was built by students of a vocational high school in eastern France, specializing in wood. The wool used for the project, instead, is completely natural and comes from an organic farm owned by a couple who produces its own wool and organic herbal teas (strictly hand-picked), knitted by a French designer, Aurelie Richard. For all these reasons the project Wood and Wool is “In Between”.

I hope to live a life in between the normalities myself, in order to discover new territories.
