Reduci dal debutto in Biennale con “Insertum”, Emanuela Ortolani, Michela Romano e David Vecchi, fondatori di Ultra Architettura, avanzano a grandi passi verso un 2015 ricco di nuove proposte, perché non si parli di un panorama architettonico in cui a brillare siano unicamente le grandi “star”.
Sono italiani che lavorano in Italia, sono giovani intraprendenti che hanno saputo esportare e promuovere la propria idea di architettura all’estero, sono “ultra architetti”.
Da casuali incontri in università fino alla nascita di ULTRA Architettura, Emanuela Ortolani, Michela Romano e David Vecchi sono stati guidati dalla volontà condivisa di ricercare una “formula” per far sopravvivere l’Architettura al lato negativo della contemporaneità.
“Le questioni contemporanee in architettura riguardano aspetti cruciali, quali la dispersione del costruito, il consumo del suolo, la debolezza dei sistemi infrastrutturali, la perdita delle risorse ambientali e della qualità abitativa.”
I tre fondatori condividono la stessa visione e passione per un’architettura che non è mai fine a se stessa e il cui valore non si esaurisce con il gesto creativo ma si esprime attraverso la molteplicità degli aspetti che la caratterizzano. In questo senso ogni progetto diviene occasione per esplorare tutti i modi del fare architettura, al fine di ottenere una consonanza tra gli elementi.
“Forma, funzione e luogo sono per noi interdipendenti e devono poter sussistere in una sorta di alchimia, devono poter vibrare all’unisono.”
L’opera più recente proposta da ULTRA Architettura ed esposta tra “cielo e terra” in Fundamentals 2014, si esprime come rapporto tra parti, come tensione tra elementi: tradizione e innovazione, ricerca e sintesi, arte materiale e arte emotiva, molteplicità e armonia, architettura e contesto. Tensioni, queste, che continueranno a stimolare la ricerca progettuale di ULTRA Architettura e la crescita professionale dei suoi “ultra architetti”.

Fresh of their debut at the Biennale with the work “Insertum”, Emanuela Ortolani, Michela Romano and David Vecchi, the founders of ULTRA Architettura, stride confidently towards a 2015 full of new ventures, whose main concern is to renew an architecture world where otherwise just big “stars” would shine.
They are Italians working in Italy, they are resourceful young people who have been able to export and promote abroad their idea of architecture, they are “ultra architects”.
From the fortuitous meetings during university, until the birth of ULTRA Architettura, Emanuela Ortolani, Michela Romano and David Vecchi were driven by a shared determination to look for a “formula” that would be able to spare Architecture the negative side of the present time.
“Contemporary issues in architecture address some crucial aspects, such as the urban sprawl, the land consumption, the weakness of the infrastructure systems, the loss of environmental resources and the quality of life.”
The three founders share the same vision and passion for a kind of architecture that is never self-referential and whose value never comes down to a mere creative act; instead, it expresses itself through the variety of aspects that characterizes it.
In this sense, each project becomes an opportunity to explore all the possibilities of architecture, in order to achieve harmony between every element.

The most recent proposal by ULTRA Architettura, which was exhibited between “heaven and earth” at Fundamentals in 2014, is expressed as a relation between parts, a tension between elements: tradition and innovation, research and synthesis, material art and emotional art, multiplicity and harmony, architecture and context. These are the tensions that will continue to stimulate ULTRA Architettura’s research and the professional growth of its “ultra architects”.
