Intrecci d’arte – I collage di Joao Galrao

  • 8 April 2015
  • Nicola Nitido

The project Slow Motion, that has been developing in the last year, uses a series of overlaying images from classic authors’ artworks from different times along centuries, to represent several dichotomies and thematic resistances where the artist searches a re- interpretation of itself, transforming the figurative images in a certain abstractionism of the form and the way the artwork is looked upon. In the artwork “Happy Day” is presented a collage of two overlaying classical paintings: “The Crucifiction”, Hieronimos Bosh; and Bacus, Michelangelo da Caravaggio. The irony of this work resides not only in the artworks’ title, as well as in the association of the presented images, where a pagan symbol “Bacu” representing the orgy, party and wine is merged with Christ’s crucifixion. This ironic combination almost transforms the final artwork into something pagan or anti-Christ.
