L’artista cinese Ai Weiwei ha realizzato una nuova installazione chiamata An Archive composta da 5 anni di attività su twitter stampata su carta di riso. L’artista ha a lungo utilizzato twitter come piattaforma da cui partire per protestare contro l’oppressione del governo cinese e questo gli ha fatto guadagnare un ban. Ai racconta come l’opera ─ formata da migliaia di fogli ─ mostri l’utilizzo del social come esercizio per la mente usata per ricordi del passato, discussioni sul presente e previsioni sul futuro.
“Twitter is a very interesting medium. It is not one that records the past, but one that forms in the present condition, with real connections to the future… Although they are just my writings on Twitter, they relate to certain events and the discussions between readers and myself. It is like water flowing in front of us. There is a need to record it like a novel or like a piece of history.”
