Un viaggio a Pyongyang – Inside North Korea di Oliver Wainwright

Oliver Wainwright, giornalista e fotografo del Guardian, ci accompagna in un suggestivo viaggio in uno dei Paesi più misteriosi del mondo con la sua raccolta Inside North Korea.

Rasa al suolo dai bombardamenti durante la Guerra di Corea, Pyongyang fu interamente ricostruita a partire dal 1953, coerentemente con la visione del fondatore della nazione, Kim Il-sung.
Progettata come un imponente palcoscenico, questa capitale è formata da grandi viali perpendicolari che collegano colossali monumenti, decorati da vistosi elementi di gusto prettamente nordcoreano, per risultare «nazionali nella forma e socialisti nel contenuto».
Durante il governo dell’attuale leader, Kim Jong-un, lo sviluppo edilizio ha conosciuto un’impennata senza precedenti: «Trasformiamo l’intero paese in un paradiso socialista», recita uno degli slogan patriottici ufficiali.
Pyongyang si sta gradualmente trasformando in un parco giochi, evocando una vaga atmosfera di prosperità e sfruttando l’architettura come un potente anestetico, annebbiando la percezione della popolazione riguardo la desolata realtà del suo regime autoritario.
In questo libro edito da Taschen, Oliver Wainwright ci accompagna in un viaggio architettonico oltre le frontiere del Paese più misterioso del mondo, rivelando come al di là delle grandi facciate di pietra si celi un mondo sfarzoso di marmi e mosaici, soffitti a cassettoni e lampadari di cristallo, e mostrandoci le sgargianti palette cromatiche che caratterizzano gli interni più recenti.
Questa raccolta include circa 300 fotografie corredate da argute didascalie, nonché un saggio introduttivo in cui Wainwright ripercorre la storia e lo sviluppo di Pyongyang.
