I titoli Huis clos e Hostilités Sourde di due serie fotografiche ci introducono immediatamente nelle sensazioni psicologiche ed emotive di Kathleen Meier già prima di vedere le sue immagini.

 “My work is a study about human psychologicy. How do we react face to given situations? How our education, our experiences and our culture lead our feeling?”

Kathleen, che vive e lavora a Nancy dopo essersi diplomata alla Ecoles de Condé della città, con queste parole introduce la sua ricerca sul disorientamento e la perdita di contatto con il mondo esterno, sull’inconscio che ci condiziona e ci fa viaggiare in labirinti mentali faticosi.

In punta di piedi e con il fiato sospeso apriamo le porte chiuse di Huis clos e cerchiamo, su quelle tappezzerie di fascino antico, macchie, graffi o segni di vite vissute. Sotto e dietro a quei fiori stampati su carta in pendant con la stoffa pesante che nega luce e rumori, percepiamo altri graffi e altre macchie e altre storie e altre vite.

Sono stanze ermeticamente chiuse al mondo esterno, luoghi silenziosi dove si sono intrecciate le emozioni di uomini e donne che li hanno vissuti e decorati e poi li hanno abbandonati lasciandoli a noi che li guardiamo di nascosto per immaginare esistenze ormai inesistenti.

In Hostilités Sourde, in continua dicotomia interno-esterno, entriamo in spazi esterni claustrofobici come interni, un continuum di visioni di esterni incollati come tappezzerie sui muri interni delle nostre solitudini, per uscire dentro mutevoli identità.
