Not everyone is comfortable with words, some people are able to fully express themselves with music, others with images. For this reason, we have decided to start this new format: we give 5 inputs to some of the illustrators we like most and ask them to respond through drawings. Not something complex and elaborate, just sketches on paper, like when as children we give shape to our imagination.
Jin Xia is an illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. She enjoys using abstract shapes and expressive textures to tell stories big and small. Born in Hangzhou, a tourist city in Southeast China, Jin came to the US to study Communication Design at Washington University in St. Louis. Motivated by the storytelling nature of illustration, Jin decided to pursue her passion after college at Maryland Institute College of Art, where she earned her MFA degree in Illustration Practice. Currently, Jin works as a full-time illustrator for Paperless Post in New York City, and she takes editorial commissions from time to time. Jin is always excited about topics in news, technology, and lifestyle. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, WIRED, NBC News, Harvard Business Review, and many more.
