We are in Peru, high in the mountains of Cusco, near the Pucamarca lagoon in Chinchero, where Pumaqwasin is based: a collective of women weavers dedicated to preserving the textile techniques passed down through generations.
It is a continuous dialogue between the preservation and sharing of Andean culture and traditions, where women have long been at the forefront, carrying forward ancestral practices of wool washing, natural dyeing, spinning, and, finally, weaving.
Weaving thus becomes the thread that connects tradition with a living practice that, while deeply rooted in the past, is constantly renewed and transformed. Ancient gestures evolve to create garments that captivate with their extraordinary colors, while the yarn itself becomes a true “red thread”, linking craftsmanship to place, landscape, and community. Time spent weaving together strengthens friendships and emotional bonds, creating a powerful connection among the artisans.
