Anna Condo: Where Art, Nature and Artificial Intelligence Meet

Many people aren’t used to associating the concept of “art” with the idea that it can also be created with the help of artificial intelligence. But after seeing Anna Condo’s work and discovering the vision behind her creative process, some may well change their minds.
Recognising the potential hidden within AI, the artist decided to immerse herself in the medium and explore its seemingly endless possibilities.

At first, her work was not fully understood by the public and was met with scepticism from those who strongly opposed the use of AI:

When I started making works with A.I., everyone looked at me like I was cuckoo. And now you can’t open a paper or watch anything without someone or something mentioning A.I.

Visionary, curious and constantly evolving, Anna Condo’s artistic practice represents a compelling union of cutting-edge thinking and technology. By seamlessly blending tradition with innovation, Anna sees artificial intelligence as a tool capable of enhancing and conveying beauty, one that is in tune with a world undergoing constant and relentless change.

Anna Condo

Born in 1963, Anna Condo was born in Armenia and raised in France. Her academic background includes the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris and Université Paris Nanterre, where she studied art history and archaeology, while the renowned Cours Florent and Lee Strasberg Institute completed her training in film.

Today, she divides her time between Paris and New York, working across art, photography and cinema.

In 2013, her photography career began to intertwine with her work in film, driven by a desire to find a sense of calm amid the fast-paced chaos of film sets.

Flowers, above all, became her greatest source of inspiration and consequently the main character of many of her photographs.

The flower, strong and independent, is not merely a decorative element or the subject of a still life, but embodies the figure of a feminist woman ante litteram.

Art without flowers is unimaginable.

The New Nature series began in 2022, expanding on the relationship the artist had developed with flowers over the years while redefining the very concept of nature.

Intricately detailed petals and textured stems are framed by leaves, sometimes slender, sometimes broad. These elements transform the subject from a mere component of flowering or desert flora into the true protagonist of the work.

Through the use of code and artificial intelligence, Condo reinterprets the flower, striking a perfect balance between abstraction and realism while combining poetic sensitivity with conceptual rigour.

Artificial intelligence thus becomes a tool for reading, exploring and decoding the language of the Earth in all its complexity.

Reality and fiction coexist harmoniously in the images from the À la carte series. The subjects appear suspended in time yet, at the same time, capable of transcending it, as though destined to live forever.

Glossy finishes, rich textures and saturated colours make the food look irresistible and enticing.

Often embellished with unexpected jewellery and oversized gemstones, or defined by glossy surfaces, these scenes become spaces where everyday life meets movement, and familiarity coexists with extravagance.

The artist draws inspiration from vintage cookbooks and childhood memories rooted in French and Armenian culinary traditions.

We all need food and we all know food. We carry memories tied to taste, sight, smell. Still life, vanitas, recipe books – all of it feeds my work.

Created from text prompts, then layered through digital collage and refined in Photoshop, the images play on the contrast between a sense of deliciousness and visual appeal and a deliberately artificial sheen.

Today AI is too clean. Reinventing imperfection is part of the work. That is the human choice I carry forward when I create.
