Nature, people and the universe as a whole form the starting point of Veronyka Jelinek’s artistic practice. Her work investigates drawing and explores its possibilities through a range of techniques, from layering still imagery with raw, expressive lines to painting and collage.

According to the illustrator, it is precisely in the rawest marks that we can sense the movement of the human hand, allowing the work to resonate with us more deeply.

When I draw, and especially when I make animations, I don’t simply try to depict or describe something: to draw a rabbit, a hand, or a person walking, I almost feel the need to empathize with the subject.
I have to empathize with that person walking and then try to capture that feeling in the image.

Jelinek’s work spans not only illustration but animation as well. Through collaborations with institutions, brands and editorial publications, her career has grown to encompass a diverse range of projects, from short animations to more complex visual narratives.

All her work is united by a single aim: to push the boundaries of art and storytelling in order to create work that is both meaningful and enduring.

Her work has received recognition from the Society of Illustrators, the World Illustration Awards, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and numerous international animation festivals, among others.
